Why Is UKOPA providing information to Landowners and Farmers

UKOPA analysis of pipeline ‘near miss’ and damage data prepared by the Infringement Working Group (IWG) indicates that a significant number of incidents with the potential to cause damage to pipelines occur on agricultural land. UKOPA members will provide information and onsite support free of charge in order to reduce the possibility of damage to pipelines or injury to anyone carrying out works. All landowners and farmers are encouraged to make contact with the pipeline operator if they have plans to undertake any work close to the pipeline, which would not be classed as normal agricultural activity or about which they have any concerns such as deep ploughing. In addition, UKOPA members will maintain the route of the pipeline and ensure pipeline markers are in place and in good condition.
